Letter from our new Chairman - Alan Bealby
As I take over as the new POFR Chairman, I would like to begin by thanking Pat Redrup for his stewardship over the past 5 years. Pat has led the board through challenging times from foot and mouth to a major capital investment programme in each of the hotels. He departs the post leaving the Company in a strong financial position.
Dumbleton Hall, with the investments we have made, goes from strength to strength, ably led by Gavin Dron and his professional team. Waterhead is well on track to meet its target, and at Friars Carse our cottages, the first new major product in our portfolio for many years, have been a real success. Friars Carse itself continues to present a commercial challenge, but through both focused investment and marketing plans, I am sure we will have a successful year. Friars Carse has such great potential.
The POFR is a membership organisation and members will remain key to our success. For members we are improving many of our services and have brought in a range of offers/discounts aimed at encouraging the use of our facilities. These improvements and investments have been possible by introducing additional commercial ventures at the hotels, and hence profitability of our Company.
As Chairman I am confident that we can sustain our progress in a demanding and fiercely competitive leisure industry. However I am also conscious that as a Fellowship of Remembrance we have a legacy that goes beyond immediate commercial pressures and day to day board decisions. Whilst endeavouring to ensure that our Remembrance ideas are always honoured, as we move into the 21st Century we must update and evolve our Organisation.
Consequently, as it is some time since we have done a members survey, I would like, as your new Chairman, to take this opportunity to invite you to let me have your views on the long term strategy for the POFR. Any thoughts you have would be much appreciated and should be sent to Simon Kelly at Dumbleton Hall or emailed to simon@pofr.co.uk . Your Board does of course have its own range of views, but we would like to hear from you.
Finally let me take this opportunity to thank my Board for their hard work and support; and for the commitment and dedication of our General Managers and their Teams.
I hope to meet with some of you at one of our hotels over the coming months.

The Long Path at Dumbleton
The path has finally been completed to the back of the property. This project has been carried out in three sections over three years. Guests can now access the gardens and the views of the surrounding countryside while remaining on a firm footing.

Raven Hall Hotel
A new collection of eight exclusive Eco-Friendly Lodges designed and developed in Finland is now available to stay in at Raven Hall Hotel. Designed and built with sustainable materials imported by Finnish Living Homes. The lodges are also equipped with water recycling systems, recycled energy boosting and all will be equipped with high- specification furniture and natural fabrics. Election of Directors
At the Annual General Meeting members entitled to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting may be elected as Directors. Members entitled to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting and who wish to submit a nomination paper for election as a Director should apply in writing to the Company Secretary at Dumbleton Hall for a nomination paper. The completed nomination paper should contain the name, age, length of membership, address and telephone number of the nominee, proposer and seconder, together with their signatures and the nominee's signed acceptance of nomination. To be eligible for election completed nomination papers must be received at Head Office, Dumbleton Hall Hotel, Dumbleton, Nr.Evesham, Worcs, WR11 7TS by close of business on Friday 11th July 2008.

Friars Carse Hotel
"A Fresh Approach at Friars"
We are all very excited at Friars Carse. The hotel is being headed by a new team which includes some old faces. Philip has welcomed back Fraser Hunter as his deputy, and Fraser's wife Laura has accepted a promotion to Head Chef. Amy Jackson has also been enticed back to Friars as Laura's assistant chef. As the hotel is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, the emphasis has been placed on returning to good traditional Scottish hospitality. Over the coming months Philip will be tempting you to the hotel with special offers, themed Weekends, and special events.
To start this year off the Hotel is running a competition for our members. Phill and team are looking to our members for some culinary participation. He would like all interested members to submit their favourite Scottish dish which they feel should be included on the hotel's menu. The recipes will be judged by our Group Food & Beverage Manager, Nick Brown and Laura Hunter. The winner will receive a two night Dinner, Bed & Breakfast stay for two at Friars Carse Country House Hotel and have the opportunity to sample their dish which will be prepared by the team. All entries must be received by Philip at the hotel by June 30th. The winner will be informed by post by the 14th July. Please post all entries to Philip McGarry at Friars Carse.
