Rutland Arms Introduction

Rutland Arms exterior from park

Situated in the town of Bakewell in the spectacular Peak District National Park, the Rutland Arms Hotel offers a hint of Georgian elegance in unrivalled surroundings.

Built for the Duke of Rutland in 1804 on the site of the old White Horse Inn, the building now offers a unique character with a warm, friendly atmosphere and is now graced by a collection of 54 antique English clocks spread around the hotel adding to the air of history. The hotel’s kitchen was the birthplace of the Bakewell pudding for which the town is so famous while it is believed Jane Austen stayed here whilst visiting neighbouring Chatsworth and revising the final chapters of her novel Pride and Prejudice.
